My name is Patrick Keller and I am a junior journalism student at UMass Amherst. I come from the small town of Northborough, Massachusetts, about forty-five minutes south of Boston. Some fast yet mildly bizarre facts about me?
1. I am one of four, with two younger brothers and a younger sister. My sister, whom we call the princess of the household, will never, repeat, NEVER, get a boyfriend.
2. Sports are my infatuation; I can’t get enough.
3. Sadly, I have never been to Disneyland (despite my mom promising me we would when I was seven).
4. I rely heavily on superstition. I believe it bad luck to throw out fortunes from fortune cookies, which is why I have an absurd collection of them in my room at home.
Journalism is a passion of mine that I hope to continue as a career someday. I wrote for my high school paper, The Harbinger, where I fell in love with the process of journalism. The techniques involved (i.e. interviewing, blogging, researching, informing, etc.) provide the foundation for the final product and, if the techniques are done efficiently, the final product can be laid out before even putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. Since coming to UMass I haven’t been able to be as involved with the Collegian as I would have hoped. I have written various sports articles in my free time. In my last two years in Amherst I want to become more consistent in writing for the school paper.
